Enhance Scanned PDF with OCR

Enhance PDF restores image-based scanned pages with deterministic, non-generative processing. It analyzes each page before applying bounded rotation, deskew, perspective correction, background cleanup, denoise, contrast, binarization, sharpening or text-edge reinforcement. It can then add a reviewable OCR text layer without inventing missing visual detail.

Before you start

Use one valid, unencrypted PDF. A signed-in account is required and Guest processing is denied. Preserve the original source.

Best for

• Skewed or rotated scans.
• Faded, noisy or uneven-background pages.
• Image-only PDFs that need searchable text.
• Latvian, English, Russian or mixed-language review copies.

How to use it

1. Sign in and select one valid PDF.
2. Choose Latvian, English, Russian or combined OCR language mode.
3. Review every page in the Original pane and start processing.
4. Follow queue status if current native capacity is occupied.
5. Correct letters, words or line breaks in any page of the Editable OCR text pane.
6. Export the latest corrected text as DOCX, legacy DOC or PDF.
7. Download the separate Enhanced Original PDF, Searchable PDF or processing report when needed.
8. Review low-confidence evidence before relying on OCR text.

Important options

Combined Latvian, English and Russian is the default OCR mode. Auto restoration applies only bounded transformations supported by page diagnostics. The uploaded source bytes remain unchanged; restoration changes pixels in separate outputs. Correcting editable text does not rewrite the already-created Searchable PDF.

• Searchable PDF: restored pages plus reviewable OCR text.
• Processing report: checksums, deterministic parameters and page evidence.
• Review evidence: low-confidence regions requiring attention.
• Corrected text DOCX: genuine OOXML with source-page boundaries.
• Corrected text DOC: genuine legacy Word binary created locally through LibreOffice.
• Corrected text PDF: a separate document generated from the latest edited text.

What to check before relying on the result

Compare stamps, signatures, handwriting, tables, small print, page geometry and every low-confidence OCR region against the source. Searchable text is an aid, not certified transcription.

Limitations

• OCR is not guaranteed to be exact.
• Restoration cannot recreate missing source detail.
• Handwriting, blur, unusual fonts and overlapping marks reduce reliability.
• Visual pixel changes can affect archival or evidentiary suitability.

Privacy and file handling

Processing and corrected-text exports are self-hosted with local native tools. No external OCR or generative-AI API receives this workflow’s document. Editable text stays in the current browser workspace and is not autosaved to the database. Output and job metadata follow current retention authority.

Troubleshooting

Empty, malformed, encrypted, oversized or unsafe-dimension PDFs are rejected. A timeout or native capability failure stops safely. Use the displayed reason, wait for cleanup and retry only if the interface permits it.
