How to use PDF Workspace

PDF Workspace lets you organize pages across PDF files, preview the page plan, and export the requested PDF result.

PDF Workspace is a page-level work area for one or more PDFs. It lets you inspect real page thumbnails, navigate in single-page or Continuous view, change page order and rotation, combine documents, split at selected markers, extract selected pages or remove unwanted pages before exporting a new PDF.

Before you start

A signed-in ALTABRIG account is required. Use valid PDFs within the current workspace limits and keep authoritative originals. Damaged, encrypted or unsupported PDFs can be rejected by the native PDF boundary.

Best for

  • Reordering pages from a duplex scan.
  • Combining several PDFs into one review packet.
  • Extracting a relevant section without changing the source.
  • Splitting one long PDF into validated outputs.
  • Removing confirmed blank or duplicate pages.

How to use it

  1. Sign in and add one or more PDFs.
  2. Wait for inspection and real thumbnails to become available.
  3. Use the Documents and pages panel to choose the active source.
  4. Select pages, then reorder or rotate them as needed.
  5. Add split markers, choose an extract selection, or arrange documents for merge when appropriate.
  6. Start the requested output operation once.
  7. Download every result and verify page count, order, orientation and content.

Important options

Continuous view follows pages vertically and keeps navigation context. Single-page view focuses on one page. Fit, zoom, keyboard selection and page-order controls affect the workspace view or plan; they do not silently change source bytes. Delete removes pages from the planned output, not from the original file.

Processing and queue

What you receive

Depending on the action, the result is a composed, merged, split, extracted or pages-deleted PDF. Split operations can produce multiple downloads. A portable workspace or saved local session is separate from the exported PDF and should not be confused with a final document.

What to check before relying on the result

Confirm the output opens, the page count is expected, pages occur in the intended order, rotation is correct and no required page was deleted. Inspect boundaries around every merge, split and extract operation.

Limitations

  • PDF Workspace does not edit paragraph text or redesign page content.
  • Future-labelled Edit Content, Forms and Security modes are not current features.
  • Damaged or protected PDFs may not be processable.
  • Browser-local saved state is not a records-management guarantee.

Privacy and file handling

Workspace state and temporary processing have distinct lifecycles. Native processing handles requested operations temporarily; any retained result or metadata follows current authority.

Troubleshooting

If intake is unavailable, check file validity and the current native PDF capability message. If thumbnails fail, do not assume page contents are safe to export. If an output action fails, leave the workspace unchanged, read the error and retry only when eligible.

Examples

  • Merge a cover letter, form and evidence PDF in a deliberate order.
  • Extract pages 12–18 from a report for a focused review copy.
  • Split a scanned bundle at document boundaries and verify each result.
